President’s note, July 1, 2024
Dear LWV Friends,
Warm summer greetings to you all! As you may have noticed, our volunteers are still out in the community over the summer. Over the past month our Voter Services team has continued to register voters at the Lakeline Alamo Drafthouse, Flix Brewhouse, Georgetown Public Library, and Half Price Books. We’ve also been to Round Rock Pride and Taylor Pride, and Juneteenth celebrations in Georgetown and Leander. In July we will celebrate National Ice Cream Day with our friends at Amy’s Ice Creams in Round Rock and Cedar Park. I hope over the summer you have an opportunity to recharge and rest, because the fall Voter Registration and GOTV season will begin in earnest in early August! With that in mind, Our Voter Services lead, Karen Darby, invites us all to save the following dates because we will need LOTS of volunteers:

August 3, 2024: we will have at least 5 events that day–several events will be back-to-school events.

September 17, 2024: NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION DAY! We will have many, many events and will need event leads and VDRs.

October 7, 2024: Deadline Day: This is the last day to register to vote for the November Election. Again, we will have many events that will all need volunteers.
Also, the Board is working on some exciting campaigns that we plan to roll out over the next month or so. Please be watching for more details over email and social media.

Summer Membership Drive: We’ll be announcing the specifics at our July 27 Ice Cream Social (see announcement below).

Vocal Local: A core group of us are developing a program involving partnerships with local non-profits and community organizers to boost participation in down ballot and local elections. More information to come as we nail down the specifics.
Lastly, I want to draw your attention to upcoming LWV Events:

July 27, 2024, 4 PM: LWV Wilco Ice Cream Social

August 14, 2024, 6-7:30 PM: Open Board meeting. Georgetown Recreation Center (1003 N. Austin Ave.), Multipurpose Room #4. All are welcome. We will also have a virtual option.
